Michela Carrière

Muskrats to Moose Project Team

Michela Carrière is a proud Cree/Métis woman. Michela guides wilderness retreats through her business. Michela was born and raised in northern Saskatchewan, in the heart of the Saskatchewan River Delta. She learned canoeing, hunting, trapping, plant knowledge, and about cultural burning practices from her family. Michela is a certified Wilderness First Responder; Certified Horticulturalist; and she is an herbalist. Michela has her biology knowledge in part from the University of Saskatchewan. Along with her businesses, Michela is deeply involved with the Traditional Ecological Knowledge team of Cumberland House, SK, which is the basis of research for wearefire.ca and the National Research Team – Muskrats to Moose; and in assisting in leading wearefire camps. Michela is the lead field expert on the four-year, keystone species/cultural fire burning project-titled ka mamawi-yak (coming together). Additionally, Michela is a contestant in Season 11 of ALONE. Come journey with Michela as she highlights the importance of cultural fire on the landscape and locally led research.
