Call for Awards
2022 Indigenous Wildland Firefighter Honour
Ends on September 15, 2022
Fire researchers, managers, and practitioners from all across Canada, and internationally, attend this conference to share knowledge and build relationships. Two awards are generally handed out during the conference banquet: one for career contributions to wildfire research, and the other for career contributions to wildfire management.
In recognizing the important role Indigenous Peoples play in fire stewardship, wildfire management and knowledge production across Canada, a team of Indigenous fire practitioners have come together to honour the first ever Indigenous Wildland Firefighter at the conference, with the support of the International Association of Wildland Fire. The recipient will be honoured with a blanket ceremony at the conference banquet, and travel will be covered for the recipient and a companion to the conference from their community.
We are currently accepting nominations, and need your help! We are looking for Indigenous fire practitioners and/or wildland firefighters have made exceptional contributions to wildfire management and land stewardship. Please see the attached nomination form. The recipient to be honoured will be chosen by an Indigenous panel.
