About the Conference
The Wildland Fire Canada Conference (WFCC) and Canadian Smoke Forum brings together wildland fire management agencies, Indigenous knowledge holders and experts, scientists, partners, and collaborators from across Canada and around the world. This biennial conference focuses on wildland fire management, science, and knowledge-sharing in Canada.

As a Media Partner you will:
- Gain exposure to a senior level audience from diverse wildfire industries, research and operations.
- Showcase your media brand through event marketing materials, website and social channels.
- Build relationships with influential wildfire professionals.
- Receive a complimentary event pass for interviews and coverage.
- Include 3-4 items of conference coverage (articles or advertisements) in your publication (online or print) either before, during, or after the event.
Wildland Fire Canada Conference Photo Contest
The Wildland Fire Canada Conference invites attendees to take part in our 2026 Photo Contest — a celebration of landscapes, knowledge systems, and fire practices that shape wildland fire across Canada. This contest highlights the diversity of fire on the land and the stories behind it, showcasing images that reflect our shared commitment to resilience, stewardship, and innovation.
Participants are encouraged to submit their best photographs in one of three categories:
- Cultural Fire — Images that honour Indigenous fire stewardship, cultural burning practices, community-led burns, and fire as an expression of cultural identity and knowledge.
- Prescribed Fire — Photographs capturing planned and intentional fire used for land management, ecological restoration, hazard reduction, or training.
- Wildland Fire — Images depicting wildfire events, suppression operations, fire behaviour, affected landscapes, prevention, mitigation or the work of wildland firefighters.
Selected photographs will be printed and displayed at the conference, offering attendees a powerful visual experience of fire across Canada. Winning entries will also be recognized during the event and may be featured in future publications and digital platforms.
This contest is an opportunity to share your perspective, elevate the stories behind the work, and celebrate the role of fire in our communities and ecosystems. All skill levels are welcome — from seasoned photographers to those capturing meaningful moments in the field.
To be eligible for the photo contest, entrants must own the photo or hold full rights to it. By submitting an image, entrants certify that they are the sole creator and copyright owner of the photograph.
Photos should be taken at the highest resolution possible and must be at least 300 dpi. Accepted formats include JPEG, JPG, and GIF. Identifying photos of people will not be permitted.
A $250 honorarium will be awarded to the winner in each category. Judging will be conducted by people’s choice.
Participants must be registered for the Wildland Fire Canada Conference and may submit one photo per category.
